Offering Hope for Recovery from Autism

The McCarton School is dedicated to the education of children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). The vision of the McCarton School is to provide the best opportunity offered anywhere for children with ASD to achieve their fullest potential.

Each child with an autistic spectrum disorder is unique. Traditional methods of treatment have typically championed a single modality for all children, with variable success. We believe that a multisystem disorder such as ASD needs a comprehensive approach that incorporates all the therapies necessary to address each child's deficits.

The McCarton School embraces a multidisciplinary approach using the best available teaching techniques, including behavioral techniques (Applied Behavior Analysis), speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration training and play therapy. We also routinely develop a close partnering with parents to expand the skills we teach at school to the world of home and community.

This approach, in our hands, produces a greater degree of improvement for children with ASD. Through use of the best available teaching techniques and a working partnership among teachers, parents and children the McCarton School is moving toward fully realizing its vision of children learning and playing in their natural environment.
